if you just want to clean temp files etc or wipe over free space try East-Tec Eraser Lite or Suredelete

Used properly, XP doesn't need any cleaner programs, and as noted by another responder, you should not use ANY registry cleaner.  Running disk cleanup is adequate.

I agree that CCLeaner is an awesome freeware util.  I'm just curious why you recommend not using the registry cleaner?  I've been using it for a year and a half, and haven't had any problems.  I do agree that you should make backups before proceeding with the cleaning.  Did you have a bad experience with this feature?

Not me . . but tech support forums are full of posting from folks who "fixed" their registries only to find out it was fixe the same way you "Fix" a puppy.

I have the correct listings on how to use the registry part of ccleaner on my website http://www.freewebs.com/gmanson. I'll post it.

CCleaner -(Please only check these for the Issues Section Under Registry Integrity- Missing Shared DLLs, Applications, Fonts, Application Paths, Help Files, Obsolete Software, Run At Startp, Start Menu Ordering, MUI Cache, And all FI. Make a backup only if you feel neccesary but it would be wise to do that. If you feel you do not need to make a backup and feel sure that you do not need a backup please feel free to not make once as doing this may help or not help you.-In settings try to have it on NSA 7 passes.

I usually dont bother by making a backup as it could be malware. Also if you have the process under the task manger nvsvc its a program worm. Delete it by deleting the file in windows\system32 folder.

Also try this program or buy it.
