system restore xp problem
okay I wanna do system restore to it's orignal state of the computer but it won't let it only seems to make manual system restore points. The only restore point is the day before and it won't let me pick anything else why can't I restore to a earlier time?

When you turned off system restore as suggested, you will loose all restore points. When you turn it back on, it should have only one restore point. That is normal. Do you have one restore point now ?592

That's it, and all the other restore points, if you had any are now gone for good. The System Restore program will now operate normally ( Hope-Hope ).592

Your original post said, "I wanna do system restore to it's orignal state of the computer" and reported problems with system restore. The restore problems should be solved. To restore your system to its original state my post referred you here for the procedure you can use if you have an Inspiron or Dimension made after 7/15/04. If you do not, you will have to reinstall XP followed by drivers, then applications to approximate the computer's original state.

I think someone should change the name system restore, to system go-back, and the symantec's system restore to system re-install. People are getting them mixed up. Just like PCI slots and PCI-Express slots are to different animals. A number of members are getting that one mixed up as well. When will the computer industry get their act together, and make it a little easier for the masses.Dim 4400 ( 2002 )

The usual reason for System Restore problems is a corrupted restore database. To correct this you should go to Start|Control Panel|System|System Restore tab and turn System Restore off on all driver. Reboot, then return to the System Restore tab and reenable the feature.
If your computer was made after 7/15/04 you can restore it to the original state using the procedure given here.
