Vista DVD Drive problems
I have recently upgraded my Dimension 9150 to Windows Vista Home Premium. Everything seemed to go fine. However, when I went to use a DVD the other day, my DVD Drive (HL-DT-ST DVD+1RW GWA4164B ATA Device) would not read the DVD, all it did was tell me to "Please insert a disc". I tried with other DVDs, only to receive the message again. The thing is though, that it will still read and burn CDs.
I have tried what Microsoft suggested on their website (removing the UpperFilter and LowerFilter keys in the Registry), uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers in the Device Manager, and even reinstalling the firmware on the actual DVD Drive, all to no avail. I have a theory that the problem may be the cdrom.sys driver that Vista seems to think is the only one available for it.
Is there any other way to fix this problem? I really don't want to have to buy a new drive.

Deleting the filters did not workThis is a Vista Upgrade. After the Upgrade had the drive letter changed for the DVD drive ?If so change it back to what it was before
Right click Computer/Manage/Diskmanagement
Right click the DVD drive/Change drive letter and paths186

I used the VBScript file linked in that Thread, but it did not work. I still get the following message when I insert a DVD into the DVD Drive.
And no, the drive letter is still the same.

Have you tried right click, and then open or browse? I had a problem like that, and I could check the CD/DVD content by doing that...I had to uninstall and restart the computer, delete lower and upper filter to resolve the problem, not sure if I downloaded the firmware186

Man that sounds very strange indeed! I hope it does not result in replacing the drive. Stick your O/S CD In The Machine and see if you can boot from it.186

Have you tried to boot to a Vista DVD, if you are able to do so, it is not the drive, think this way, if works outside Vista will work on Vista if is reinstalled... Maybe a corruption on registry is making thinks hard...186

Just finished trying to boot from a DVD, didn't work. It must be just that the drive is on it's way out... :P
