As I bought my brand new Dell 2 weeks prior to Dell releasing a free Vista upgrade, I have spent weeks and lots of money calling and email Dell. I think I must have spoken to at least 40 different people, telling me they can't help, I need to speak to such and such, and then being passed to someone else, who tells me the same.
All I basicly would like to know:
Will Dell offer me any discounts on buying Vista? Or even discounts on a OEM version of Vista?
Any proper answers are welcome, as Dell are not helping at all..
If you were within the 30 days of invoice, you would have been put through to the Total Satisfaction Reps who would have sent you appropriate mailing labels, prepaid. They cant tell you they wont follow a warranty policy that has been in effect for some time.
Dont you think I have tried all of that? I called Dell, and spoke to many people. Some said you cant send it back, some said I will have to pay the delivery for the item.
All I think Dell should do as a business, is sell Vista to its customers at a discounted price.
They will still make money, and if soon will only be selling Vista anyway, so all Dell's hard/software will be tuned to Vista. So all the XP machines will be out of date
No its 30 days and no restocking fee and its called the Dell Total Satisfaction Guarantee and its been in place forever. Everytime I post this someone always comes back with that response; why doent anyone know of this program considering it is so well published?
If you are an end-user customer who bought new products directly from a Dell company, you may return them to Dell within 30 days of the date of invoice for a refund or credit of the product purchase price. If you are an end-user customer who bought reconditioned or refurbished products from a Dell company, you may return them to Dell within 14 days of the date of invoice for a refund or credit of the product purchase price. In either case, the refund or credit will not include any shipping and handling charges shown on your invoice. If you are an organization that bought the products under a written agreement with Dell, the agreement may contain different terms for the return of products than specified by this policy.
To return products, you must call Dell Customer Service to receive a Credit Return Authorization Number. Refer to "Getting Help" in your Installation and Troubleshooting Guide to find the appropriate telephone number for obtaining customer assistance. To expedite the processing of your refund or credit, Dell expects you to return the products to Dell in their original packaging within five days of the date that Dell issues the Credit Return Authorization Number. You must also prepay shipping charges and insure the shipment or accept the risk of loss or damage during shipment. You may return software for refund or credit only if the sealed package containing the diskette(s) or CD(s) is unopened. Returned products must be in as-new condition, and all of the manuals, diskette(s), CD(s), power cables, and other items included with a product must be returned with it. For customers who want to return, for refund or credit only, either applications software or an operating system that has been installed by Dell, the whole system must be returned, along with any media and documentation that may have been included in the original shipment.
This "Total Satisfaction" Return Policy does not apply to DellWare products, which may be returned under DellWare's then-current return policy. In addition, reconditioned parts purchased through Dell Spare Parts Sales in Canada are non-returnable.
You cant really be that dense. Even after I cut it from the US site and pasted it, you respond with that. Here, read!!! If you still dont believe me CALL!!! Ive already done this.

Unless you have a separate agreement with Dell or except as provided in the section below, all hardware, accessories, peripherals, parts and software that is unopened and still in its/their sealed package or, if delivered electronically, that has not been downloaded, may be returned
within twenty-one (21) days from the date on the packing slip or invoice for a credit or a refund of the purchase price paid, less shipping and handling and applicable restocking fees. "
"Exceptions to Dell's 21-day
return policy:
New PowerEdgeTM , PowerConnectTM and PowerVaultTM products may be returned within thirty (30) days from the date on the packing slip or invoice, except that new PowerEdgeTM SC servers and n series products purchased from the Small and Medium Business Sales Division may only be returned within fourteen (14) days from the date on the packing slip or invoice.
Application software or an operating system that has been installed by Dell may not be returned unless you return the entire computer under the 21-day return policy, if applicable to your purchase (if not applicable to your purchase, you may not return application software or an operating system).
"Restocking Fees:
Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error,
a restocking fee of 15% may be charged on hardware, accessories, peripherals, parts and unopened software still in its/their sealed package, and on software that has not been downloaded if the software is delivered electronically. "
You are quoting the Dell return policy. I am quoting the Dell Total Satisfaction Agreement. The difference pertains to a business purchase vice home or home office.
What you quoted is for business purchases, not home.
Do us both a flavour, call Dell as I just did and ask for yourself.
I dont mean to be persistant but, I have done this. I have had this same response as yourself over and over...and then I have had others thank me for the info...because they did as I did.
They returned a system under the Total Satisfaction Warranty. I returned mine on the 27th day by the way.
No...read the agreement.... I posted it for you from the US site. It is 30 days under the Total Satisfaction Warranty. Call if you are unsure. I dont understand how someone can see Dell policy in black and white and still say it doesnt apply.
The above guarantee was just taken off the US site this morning. There is no change. The unfortunate part is people think this is too good to be true; it is not.
It is simple and applies to US and Canada. If you dont like your system for any reason...any reason....just contact their rep who will forward you to the Total Satisfaction personnel. There is a department specifically for this. They will give you a return auth right on the phone and they will send you mailing labels which are prepaid.
I have done this (Nov 06) and Im aware of a close friend as well in California (Aug 06).
To be 100 percent clear, I just called Dell USA Rep.....this policy is still in effect.
