I receive a Visual C++ error message and cannot open Internet Explorer if another user is Logged on and has MS IE open. IE Version 6 XP Pro. Any ideas?
There are many causes which vary according to the exact error message you are getting; it would help if you posted the exact error text.
The common errors of this type posted recently are often related to IE6 toolbars. The following suggestions, which are reversible, might help: -In IE, click on Tools, select Internet Options, then the Advanced Tab. Then uncheck the option for "Enable Third Party Browser extensions." -Alternatively, uninstall the google toolbar in Control panel>Add or Remove Programs.
I have XP Media Center Edition, but was experiencing the same error message (Visual C++ Runtime error. Terminated in an unusual way.) when trying to launch Internet Explorer on another user, when one user had an IE window open.
By the suggestion on this thread, I tried disabling browser add-ons one at a time to find the culprit. Turns out it was McAfee's Anti-Phising helper object. Other add-ons can probably be to blame, but see if it works for you.
Internet Explorer Tools menu -> Manage Add-Ons and disable some or all of the add-ons. Then close and restart IE, switch users, and try to launch IE from there. If it works without Visual C++ error, then one of the disabled add-ons is probably to blame.
I also took the advice of uninstalling the Google Toolbar.
YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!!! It worked... I have a brand new xps with media edition xp and was so angry to have this problem. The Google Toolbar thing did not work, but the McAfee phishing thing worked!!!!!!!!!
I spent 5 hrs over many calls with Dell Support trying to fix this. You are the greatest for posting this!
