Windows XP Missing Files

I have been plagued by spyware, which touch wood, seems to be removed from my pc but I am now left with Windows telling me files are missing, such as winoldap.mod.  This alert comes when I try to install software on my pc.

I had previously received a message that the 16 bit Windows subsystem had a problem and downloaded a fix from doxdesk.com which enabled me to try to install the software but this message about winoldap.mod  then appeared.

Please can someone advise on how to fix this particular problem - I really don't wont to have to reinstall Windows XP at this stage.

Thank you.

Run sfc /scannow to replace missing system files. Have your XP cd handy in case it asks for it. Note the space after sfc.

Or if you have the folder C:\I386 there is a spare copy of winoldapp.mod in there. Copy it to C:\windows\system32 folder.

Hi, thanks for your replies.  I tried to follow both suggestions.

The scan ran and just ended without saying all Windows files were ok.  Is this how it should be?

I located the file winoldapp.mod but the missing file is winoldap.mod - does the missing 'p' in app make any difference?  Do I just copy the file to the system32 folder?

Any further advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Microsoft search lists winoldap.mod as a necessary .dll file, but doesn't recognize winoldapp.mod as a valid file.

Sorry that was a typo in my previous post. The file in my C:\I386 folder (and in C:\Windows\system32 is winoldap.mod  one p. I don't have one with 2 ps anywhere.

The sfc scan completes without any message, that is normal.

    Hi VCraig,

I copied the file over and hey presto, installing works again without any problems.

Thanks again for all your help.
