XML Core Services

This morning I received notification of an important update, so I installed it.  It was a security update for XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181).   Ten minutes later I got a notification of an update and it was the same one.   I did not install it again because I checked the update history, and remebered that I had this same problem with this particular update several months ago.  This same update has been installed four times.   How do I get rid of this update notification icon??

This installed on 8-7-07 and it is a security package to stop an attacker from gaining access to your computer. It says once installed it can not be removed.

I realize that, but the problem is that since it is already installed, why do I keep getting these notifications that an update is available, and it is this same update.  If I go ahead and install it (although it has already been installed 5 times), then minutes later I get another notification of an update and it is the same one again.  This could go on all day and into eternity.

The next time you recieve the update click hide update and it will not re-appear again or try to install.

I had this same problem and found the answer on a MS web site.

    1. Go to: Windows\system32 folder

    2. Find msxml4.dll and rename it to some thing like msxml4.old

    3. Re-boot. You will get an error message on re-boot, just click ok to get past the message.

    4. Install the update.

    5. Re-boot again and all should be well.
