I bought a dell inspiron 8600 in November last year. I didnt get an XP disk with it, as it was pre-installed. Is there anyway I can recieve a copy?
You had 30 days to tell Dell, and most likely will now have to buy it. It is shipped with the computer even though it's pre-installed, so either you misplaced it (like thousands of other posters) or Dell neglected to ship it.
if you get "told off" by dell to buy a new CD, don't bother. you can visit microsoft's website and request they send you the XP SP2 cd. it will take about a month to get it. it is cheaper to get the SP2 than to buy a whole new XP cd.
good luck...
They are looking for Windows, not just the SP2 update.

yo can still get the cd for it all you have to have is a warnty still valid it shat cover it so all you have to do is contact for example if you got the pc from rent a center then you wouild say you never got the cd they will obtain a cd for you. or if its from dell they will give you a cd if you have not recieved a cd when purchaseing your system the will replace irt because it is a part of the dell product and you need to have you (COA) CERTIFICATE OF AUTHORENCY LABLE number ready SO YOU WILL GET THE RIGHT CD FOR THE EXACT COA LABLE THEY WILL ALSO NEED THE SERVICWEE TAG AND YOUR EXPRESS SERVICE CODE.

This is incorrect information. All Dell XP CDs are the same.
If you already have service pack 2 on your computer it will be part of your windows updates. If not follow these steps on getting service pack 2 CD below.
1. Original installation CD of Windows XP Home or Professional.
2. The full 266MB Windows XP Service Pack 2 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en (Better if you have the SP2 CD at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx)
