Removing a file system driver - WinVDEdrv6.sys.

I have a driver I need to remove, WinVDEdrv6.sys, so I can turn on memory integrity. I'm told that it's a system driver so if it's not properly removed it might prevent my laptop from accessing the disk - which may mean that I can't boot into Windows again. I that true?

Any ideas on how I can safely remove it?

More on that file here and here. It is not essential for the OS operation as per the linked web page. Also more thorough information here.

I'm no expert, but what people want is a simple to use approach to removing WinVDEdrv6.sys. Telling unsophisticated users to identify the program that is running a process is akin to telling them to jump over the moon.

    This worked for me.

Open drive C. Go to SysWow64 folder.

Search in that folder for WinVDEdrv6.sys. You cannot delete that file because it is in use. But you may be able to change its name by editing the name. I was able to do so.

    Restart.

Go back to syswow64, find the file you named it as, and delete that file.
