WD15 180w & 9710

Hi

I know it's seriously old tech but just wondered if anyone is running a 9710 with a 180w WD15 dock?

I don't need anything special from a dock (power, usb a, hdmi, Ethernet) and they are super cheap on eBay....

Cheers

Gareth

    @Gareth_Tom  Also be aware that some of the cheap dock offers on eBay only include the main dock unit and not a power supply.  In that case, 180W Dell power supplies aren't difficult to find since Dell has been making them for a very long time, and any Dell 180W power supply with the barrel connector will work since Dell has always used 19.5V output with the barrel-style connector, but the cost of that separate power adapter would of course have to be factored into the overall proposition in that case.

    @ECharles  There's no WD16.  There's a TB16, and then various WD19 dock family models.

    @Gareth_Tom  I would imagine that the setup you're contemplating would work, but just be aware that your display setup would be limited to dual 1920x1200 or single 2560x1440.

    I'd look for a WD16 dock. Not much more expensive and a far better dock.

    Thanks ECharles & jphughan.  Noted on the 180w psu. The low res screen connections don't limit my setup, it was more for the power, USB-A & Ethernet anyway.

    Cheers! Gareth

    I am.
    I use it for XPS-17(9710) power, Ethernet, 2 non-4K monitors, and USB.
    Sometimes the 9710 barks about insufficient power on startup, but usually not...
    but my old XPS-15 (9550) would too... just select "continue" and Bob's your uncle.

    I tried to get compatibility confirmation from DELL regarding the combination and it was like
    pulling teeth... some support Reps said it would, others had no clue.

    Hope this helps !
