Problem

Intermittently, E6420's May Display Wavy Lines While Streaming Video

Users may report intermittent red wavy lines on the internal LCD screen of the E6420 while streaming video. This behavior has only been observed under the following configuration:

· Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit
· Optimus™ disabled
· Dell nVidia driver version A03
· Docked in a Dell E-Port or E-Port Plus
· Connected to external monitor through onboard video ports

Solution

Update The nVidia Driver And Re-enable Optimus™

This is not a hardware issue. The following options have been determined to resolve the issue:

    • Enable Optimus™ and allow Windows to utilize the hybrid video solution
    • Install the latest driver from nVidia

Enabling Optimus™ in the BIOS:

  1. Shut the system off.
  2. Press the Power button and immediately press the F2 button when the Dell logo appears onscreen.
  3. Select the Video Category in the left pane of the BIOS window displayed.
  4. Select the Optimus™ option.
  5. In the right pane, check the Enable Optimus™ box.
  6. In the lower right corner of the screen, click Apply and Exit. The system will reboot normally.
