Learn how to identify no post issues and troubleshoot them in this video. To identify no post issues, look for the following symptoms: Your system powers on, but the screen is blank. The hard drive isn't flickering, and you hear beeps or the power button flashes.
To see if no post is being caused by one of your external peripherals, turn off the computer and disconnect the external peripherals. Turn on the computer and check if the system powers on. If the system powers on, contact us via one of the options on the Dell website.
If there is still no power, continue with the next step. Next, let's perform a hard reset. This process differs for laptops with and without a removable battery. Before you begin, please consult the laptop's user manual to learn how to properly remove internal components and follow safety precautions.
To hard reset a laptop with a removable battery: Turn off the computer and disconnect any external peripherals. Unplug the charger and remove the battery. Press and hold the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to drain any residual power in the system.
Reinsert the battery and plug the charger back. Reconnect the external peripherals and check if the issue is resolved. To reset a laptop with a non-removable battery: Turn off the computer. Plug in the charger but disconnect all external peripherals from the system.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds until the power LED light blinks 3 times. Release the power button and restart the system to check if the issue is resolved. To hard reset a desktop: Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cable and any external peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to drain any residual power. After 20 seconds, reconnect the power cable and turn on the computer to check if the issue is resolved. If you are still having issues after resetting your computer, let's reset the real-time clock. Note that not all models have this option available.
Turn off the computer and make sure the system stays connected to the power source. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Once you release the power button, the system should restart several times. When the reset is complete, the system will reboot and the Dell splash screen will indicate the reset was successful.
After the RTC is complete, it's recommended to access BIOS and configure the boot sequence, date and time, and SATA operation according to the settings shipped with your computer. Repeatedly tap the F2 key at the Dell logo screen to enter BIOS.
The next steps will differ based on your system. For systems manufactured after 2021 under integrated devices, configure the date and time. Go to boot configuration to configure the boot list and storage to configure the SATA operation. For systems manufactured before 2021, go to settings and then date and time to configure the date and time.
Then go to boot sequence to configure the boot list. Under system configuration, select SATA operation to configure it. After you've completed these configurations, restart your PC. If you are still having no post issues, contact us via one of the options on our support website so we can assist you.
