Prerequisites
CAUTION You can remove GPU4 and GPU6 independently. However, prior to removing GPU5, ensure that you remove GPU4 and prior to removing GPU7, ensure that you remove GPU6.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.
Remove the front system cover.
Remove the rear system cover.
Remove the GPU riser cables connected to the switch board or system board.
CAUTION The GPU riser cables should be removed before removing the GPUs to prevent pin damage in the GPU connectors on the system board.
Disconnect the power cables connected to the system board.
Removing a GPU riser cable from the GPU switch board:
Disconnect the GPU riser cable from the GPU riser cable connector on the GPU switch board.
Removing a GPU:
Hold the GPU by the support brackets, and lift the GPU at an angle to release it from the guide pins on the front inner wall of the chassis.
NOTE: Do not hold the GPU by the GPU riser cable board while removing the GPU.
Lift the GPU out of the chassis.
CAUTION: While removing the GPU out of the chassis ensure that the guide pins on the chassis do not scrape the GPU.
Disconnect the power cable connected to the GPU.
Removing a GPU riser cable board:
Remove the screws securing the GPU riser cable board to the GPU.
Pull the GPU riser cable board to disengage the connector on the GPU riser cable board from the GPU.
Remove the GPU riser cable routed through the GPU riser cable clip.
Removing the GPU brackets from the GPUs removed from your system:
Remove the screws securing the front I/O bracket to the GPU, and remove the I/O bracket.
Remove the screws securing the support bracket to the GPU, and remove the support bracket.
Removing the GPU brackets from the replacement GPUs:
Remove the screws securing the front I/O bracket to the GPU, and remove the I/O bracket.
Remove the screws securing the support bracket to the GPU, and remove the support bracket.
Removing the GPU switch board:
Loosen the screws securing the GPU switch board to the chassis.
Slide the GPU switch board toward the front of the chassis to disengage the slots on the GPU switch board from the tabs on the chassis.
Lift the GPU switch board out of the chassis.
Installing the optional GPU switch board:
Align the tabs on the chassis with the slots on the GPU switch board.
Slide the GPU switch board toward the back of the chassis to engage the slots on the GPU switch board with the tabs on the chassis.
Tighten the screws securing the switch board to the chassis.
Installing the custom GPU brackets on the replacement GPUs:
Align the screw holes on the front I/O bracket with the screw holes on the GPU.
Secure the I/O bracket to the GPU by using the screws.
Align the screw holes on the support bracket with the screw holes on the GPU.
Secure the support bracket to the GPU by using the screws.
Installing the GPU brackets on the GPUs removed from your system:
Align the screw holes on the front I/O bracket with the screw holes on the GPU.
Secure the I/O bracket to the GPU by using the screws.
Align the screw holes on the support bracket with the screw holes on the GPU.
Secure the support bracket to the GPU by using the screws.
Installing a GPU riser cable board:
Route the riser cable through the riser cable clip.
Align the connector on the riser cable board with the card edge connector on the GPU and press till it clicks into place.
Align the screw holes on the riser cable board with the screw holes on the GPU bracket.
Secure the riser cable board to the GPU by using the screws.
Installing a GPU:
Lower the front of the GPU at an angle and slide it to engage the slots on the GPU with the guide pins on the front inner wall of the chassis.
NOTE Do not hold the GPU by the GPU riser cable board.
CAUTION While installing the GPU, ensure that the guide pins on the chassis do not scrape the GPU.
Lower the back of the GPU to engage the guide holes on the GPU with the guide pins on the chassis.
Connect the GPU power cables to the GPU and the system board or the switch board.
CAUTION The GPU should be installed in the system before installing the GPU riser cables to prevent pin damage in the PCIe connectors on the system board or switch board.
Installing a GPU riser cable on the GPU switch board:
Insert the card edge connector firmly into the GPU riser card connector until the card is fully seated.
Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system:
Install the rear system cover.
Install the front system cover.
If applicable, install the system into the rack.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet.
Turn on the attached peripherals and then turn on the system.
