Before updating BIOS, make sure your device stays connected to its power source throughout the entire process. Open a web browser, and go to dell.com/support. Identify your system automatically or by typing the service tag into the search bar.
Select “Drivers & Downloads”, and then click on “Select Drivers”. Choose your “Operating system” and set the “Category” as “BIOS”. Expand the latest release date version to see the details. Now let’s check the BIOS version of your system.
Click on the Windows Start button to search for and open “System Information”. Look for the line item “BIOS Version/Date”, and compare it with the most recent one on the Dell website. Back on the BIOS results section of the support page, click on “Older versions” and download each one by one, starting with the oldest. Each installation should be done individually.
Before updating BIOS, make sure to save your work. If you have the second-to-most-recent BIOS version, simply download the latest one. Once the file has been downloaded, open it, and accept the confirmation. Check the box next to “Suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption” and click “Update”. Wait for the firmware data to load and follow any on-screen instructions.
In some cases, the computer will restart automatically. Otherwise, click the Restart button. When the installation is complete, the computer will boot into Windows. If you have any questions, contact us via one of the options on our support website so we can assist you.
