In this video, we'll demonstrate how to remove the M.2 2230 Solid-State Drive, or SSD, and install the M.2 2280 SSD on a Dell Latitude 3410.
Before removing the SSD, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage, and ensure your personal safety. For more information about safety guidelines, see the Service Manual at Dell.com/support.
Before you begin: Ensure that you create a recovery drive, and back up all data. Then, turn off your computer, remove the SSD card, if connected, and disconnect all attached peripherals.
To begin, turn the computer over and loosen the eight screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly. Using the flat end of a plastic scribe, pry the base cover, starting from the recesses at the hinges, and work your way around.
Then, lift and remove the base cover off the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Next, disconnect the battery cable. Using the pull tab on the battery cable, pull the battery cable out of the connector on the system board. We'll now proceed with the removal of the M.2 2230 SSD. Remove the single screw that secures the SSD to the system board.
Then, slide and remove the M.2 2230 SSD from the M.2 slot on the system board. Next, slide and remove the SSD mounting bracket from the mounting bracket slot.
Then, rotate the solid-state drive mounting bracket into the mounting slot on the palm rest and keyboard assembly, to accommodate the M.2 2280 SSD. Next, insert the M.2 2280 SSD into the M.2 slot on the system board, and replace the single screw to secure it.
You've successfully replaced the SSD. You now need to reconnect the battery cable. Slide the cable connector into the pull tab connector on the system board. To install the base cover, align the screw holes on the base cover with the screw holes on the palm rest assembly.
Then, snap the base cover into place. Now, install the eight screws to secure the base cover to the laptop. And finally, connect all the peripherals, if any, and turn on your laptop. You've now finished the replacement process.
