Can't boot into Windows 10? This video will guide you through some basic troubleshooting to understand, and in many cases fix, the problem.
The first step is ensuring you're experiencing what we call a no-boot issue and not a different type of failure. Check to make sure your computer finishes the initial power-up called the power-on self-test, or POST.
If the Dell logo appears on the screen, then disappears your system passed the POST. Next, we'll run a hardware diagnostic. To access the diagnostics, restart the computer then tap the F12 key on the Dell logo screen.
Choose "Diagnostics" from the menu. If you receive an error code, visit Dell.com/Support enter your service tag, then click the "Error code lookup" tab or contact Dell Support by phone, chat, or email.
Assuming all tests pass, reboot the system and look for any specific error messages. Record the error message and search for it on Dell.com/Support or your favorite search engine.
In some cases, a change to settings in your hardware or software may be causing the issue. Restart the computer and tap F2 at the Dell screen.
Depending on your BIOS you may need to press a key listed at the bottom of the screen to load default settings. Select "Save & exit."
On your third failed boot, the Windows Recovery Environment, or WinRE, will launch. From WinRE, you can reinstall Windows system files without losing your personal information.
Select "Troubleshoot." Then select "Reset this PC." Then select "Keep my files." Select your user account, and provide the password if prompted. Select "Reset."
If you're still unable to boot into Windows disconnect any external devices like printers, cameras, or USB devices. Remove any external media, like SD cards and optical discs then restart the computer.
If the previous troubleshooting didn't solve your issue Dell recommends restoring your computer to factory settings.
