Emc how to video session, how to install the smart license server. In this video demonstration, we will learn how to install the smarts license server on a host with the smarts software. This demonstration was created to provide supplemental information for knowledge based article 171 145 and to clarify the FLEX LM product documentation included in the smarts documentation. This video will teach you how to install the license server and license server service specify the port which the license server uses and how to structure the license server without rebooting, you would do these tasks after installing a new smarts deployment before you begin.
Please confirm that the following are available one a smarts license file. This should be sent to you from the smarts licensing team and should end in the extension. The license file is host specific and cannot be migrated to different hosts. This file must be matched up to the host that the license server is going to be installed on two, the smart software installed on the host that the license file was compiled for the smart software contains the FLEX LM license server software and installs it alongside smarts three super user access or privileges on the host where the license server is being installed.
This is required due to the license server creating a service and potentially accessing low numbered ports. Once all requirements are confirmed, you can begin the installation process. We will be performing the following three tasks. One configuring the license file for installation two, executing the license installation script, three starting the license server. These tasks will be broken into five steps. The first two steps will be placing the license file where it needs to be and configuring the license file. Step one, first, we need to save a copy of the smarts license on the host that will run the license server. It is recommended that you save the license in the smart software installation folder by default.
This folder is located in the opt in charge directory. The common practice is to install the license with the smart SAM software and this would result in saving the license file to the opt in charge SAM folder. For the purposes of this demonstration. We will also work with the smart Sam software. You do not have to install the license server with the smart SAM software. The other major software packages also include the licensed server software step two, open the license file for viewing and at the top of the file, find line seven, this line reads server in all caps. Then this host followed by the host ID that the license file was compiled for and finishes with the number 1744 below line seven. On line eight, we find the vendor line. This line specifies the vendor demon for the smart software. The vendor demon has to be set to SM underscore LM GRD 92.
Confirm that this line reads vendor in all capitals. And SM underscore LGD 92, the 1744 7 is the default port that the smart license manager uses. This can be changed to any unused port on the system. In this demonstration, we will be setting the port to 9 999 once the vendor Damon is confirmed and the port is set, make note of the host ID as we need to confirm that it is correct before installing the license server. It is important to always confirm the host. I here we see that the host ID for the license file is 005056 B 000 one D save and close the license file from the S directory. Navigate down into the smart bin directory in the bin directory. We can confirm the host id by using the command util alum host ID. This will print all the host ids for this host to the screen.
We can see that this host has the following two host ids 005056 B 0001 DN 005056 B Comparing this to the host ID, we noted from the license file, we can see that there is a match and can move forward with the March license server installation. If the host ids do not match, then you will have to contact EMC licensing and get them to send you a corrected license file for one of the host ids that were displayed. The host ids are the mac addresses of the interfaces on the host. If there is a particular interface that you want the license server to use, then specify that host id in your request for a corrected license. In the last three steps, we will be navigating to the scripts directory, installing the license server and then starting the license service step three after the license is modified and the host ids are confirmed, we will navigate to the script directory of the smarts. Install the script directory is under the same directory as the bin folder.
So we will have to go up one directory from where we are to find it. Once in the script directory, we are ready to install the license server and license service step four to install the license server and service. We just need to run one of the scripts in the script directory. The script we are going to run is the install script in windows. It would be the install CMD. We need to specify two command line parameters. When we run this script, the first parameter is the install parameter. And the second parameter is the path to the license file. For the path to the license file, we can use either the relative path from the script directory or the absolute path to the license file.
So the command in this demonstration is going to be install, license dot space, install space dot dot dot dot slash smarts dot After the script has been run, it prints out the command used to start the license server. If it is unsuccessful, it will print out the reason for the failure to install the script step five. Once the install script has been run, the service will be installed, the last step will be to start the license server in Linux. The command is Etsy unit dot D smarts license space start and can be run from any location on the host by a user with super user privileges. Please take a moment at the end of this video to review the notes section of the knowledge base article for some important information. This concludes the video on installing the smart slicing server.
Thank you very much for your time.
