In this video, we’ll guide you through enabling BitLocker in Windows 11 to secure your data. We’ll show you how to select encryption options, save your recovery key, and complete the process with a system restart.
To enable BitLocker in Windows 11, click on the Windows “Start” button and type “Manage BitLocker” into the search bar. Open the result and click “Turn on BitLocker”. Select the method to save the recovery key and click “Next”. Select one of the volume encryption options.
“Encrypt used disk space only” is faster and best for new PCs and drives. “Encrypt entire drive” is better for PCs and drives already in use, but is slower. Click “Next” once you’ve made your selection. Choose the type of encryption you would like, and then click “Next”.
Check the box next to “Run BitLocker system check” and then click “Continue”. The encryption will not start until the computer is restarted. So save any work and then restart your PC. Depending on the amount of data that needs to be encrypted, the process can take anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours.
