To update Physical Disk firmware through a ME4012/ME4024/ME4084 enclosure using Dell ME Storage Manager (MESM) management application, please follow the steps below:
1) Obtain the appropriate firmware file and download it to your computer or network.
2) It is recommended to stop I/O to the storage system. During the update all volumes will be temporarily inaccessible to hosts. If I/O is not stopped, mapped hosts will report I/O errors. Volume access is restored after the update completes.
3) Perform one of the following: a) In the banner, click the system panel and select Update Firmware. b) In the System topic, select Action > Update Firmware.
The Update Firmware panel opens.
4) Select the Update Disk Drives tab. This tab shows information about each disk drive in the system.
5) Select the disk drives to update.
6) Click File and select the firmware file to install.
7) Click OK.
CAUTION: Do not power cycle enclosures or restart a controller during the firmware update. If the update is interrupted or there is a power failure, the disk drive might become inoperative. If this occurs, contact technical support.
It typically takes several minutes for the firmware to load. Wait for a message that the update has completed.
8) Verify that each disk drive has the new firmware revision.
