Fixes:
- The Synaptics driver produced the following message when an external
PS/2 mouse was plugged in: "The advanced features of the
TouchPad have been disabled because the Synaptics TouchPad has detected
another pointing device plugged into your computer." Unfortunately, this
message would only appear sporadically. After further study of the issue,
it was determined that it would not be possible to fix this issue.
Any "fix" would create additional issues. The "enhancements" dialog box
has been removed and will no longer appear when an external PS/2 mouse is
plugged into the system.
- This driver fixed a blue screen issue that occurred when changing from
the 101 Keyboard to a 106/109 keyboard with the Japanese OS under
Microsoft Windows 2K. Note: It is recommended that the Synaptics driver be
reinstalled after changing the keyboard.
- Added support to display Reset Device button on the touch tab. The
Reset Device button allows for the Synaptics Driver to do a redetect of
the hardware. This feature can be used to restore the enhanced features
of the Synaptics driver when an external PS/2 mouse is unplugged from the
notebook.

Installation instructions
This file is a self extracting archive. You must first download the
file to your computer, then extract the files and complete the
installation. To do so, follow these instructions.
- Download this file and save it to your hard drive. Keep track of the
location in which you save the file! Dell recommends saving the file to
your desktop or to a specific folder of your choice.
- If you have previously installed an earlier version of the Synaptics
Touchpad driver, you should first uninstall it. (See uninstall
instructions below)
- Locate the file on your hard drive and double click on it when you are
ready to install. (The file will be in the location that you chose to
save it, above)
- At the "Touchpad Input Driver" information screen, verify that this
driver is for your computer and operating system. After doing so, click
on "Continue" to begin the driver extraction process.
- The driver will request a location to unzip (extract) the files to.
Dell recommends using the default location, C:\dell\Drivers\tcpad\.
Click on "OK" to continue.
- If you are asked to create the directory, click on "Yes".
- At the "All files were successfully unzipped" confirmation message,
click on "OK" to continue.
- After the files have been extracted, an Internet Explorer window will
open automatically.
- You can install the driver immediately by clicking on the "Click to
Install" area of the screen. Alternatively, if you don't wish to
install the driver at this time, close the Internet Explorer window. To
install the driver at a later time, locate and run the SETUP.EXE file in
the directory path that you selected in the step above.
- To complete the Synaptics driver installation, follow the instructions
on your screen.
To remove a previously installed version of the Synaptics Touchpad Driver:
- Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL.
- Double click on the ADD/REMOVE programs icon.
- Locate the entry for the Synaptics Touchpad and click on the REMOVE
button.
- Follow the instructions on your screen to remove the driver.
- Note that you may be required to restart your computer after removing
the previous version of the driver.
