After upgrading Dell Networking PC8100 Series switches to firmware version 6.0.0.8 or later (6.3.0.15); the system model ID will show as "N4000" in CLI, Web UI and SNMP interfaces. Dell PowerConnect 8100 Series switches supports N4000 firmware versions 6.0.0.8 and later (6.3.0.15). Both Dell PowerConnect 8100 Series and Dell Networking N4000 Series switches shares the same firmware image version (for example., N4000v6.3.0.15.stk). Dell Networking PC8100 series switches can be stacked with Dell Networking N4000 series switches with the entire stack required to run 6.0.0.8 or later firmware (6.3.0.15). Dell Networking PC8100 series switches can support both 5.x and 6.x firmware versions, but Dell Networking N4000 can support only 6.0.0.8 and later firmware versions.

Please follow software update instructions included in the zip file - "Upgrading Dell Networking PC8100 Series Switches From Version 5.x.x.x or 6.x.x.x to 6.3.0.15 Firmware.pdf".
Note: PowerConnect 8100 Series switches with B1 CPU Revision require firmware version 5.1.0.1 or later (6.3.0.15) and cannot be downgraded to earlier releases. If this unit is to be deployed as a member within a stack, the entire stack will be required to run 5.1.0.1 or later firmware (6.3.0.15). The improved CPU version XLP308H-B1 version is not compatible with firmware 5.0.x.x. The 'show version' CLI command in the 5.1.0.1 release has been improved to identify the CPU version of the switch.
