Functional Changes And Bug Fixes
The problem that caused misbehavior of containers greater than 1 TB in
size has been fixed.
In previous versions, the PERC 2 or integrated controller would only
light the "Fault" indicator on SAF-TE enclosures if a hardware error
was detected on the drive in that slot. We have extended the meaning
of the "Fault" indicator to include logical errors as well. For
instance,if the controller detects a "dead" or stale partition on a
drive when bringing it online, it will now light the "Fault" indicator
for the drive even though the drive is functioning normally. The
intent of this change is that the "Fault" indicator should be used
as a general indication that this drive needs the attention of an
operator.
The 2 GB memory restriction for NetWare has been removed for
integrated controllers. Note that a 2 GB memory limitation still exists
(and will probably always exist) for the PERC 2 and other RAID
controllers that use the Intel Drawbridge chip see Novell TID 10050482
for details.
In BIOS CCU or DOS CCU, an attempt to create a RAID-0 or RAID-10
container with more than 32 drives would result in a non-descriptive
error code (usually "error 96" or "error 117"). This has been changed
to display an explicit error indicating that a RAID-0 or RAID-10
container may have no more than 32 drives.
In previous versions, if a SCSI disk was formatted with the BIOS Disk
Utilities and the format was interrupted, a firmware crash would result
if the user then attempted to re-format or verify the disk with Disk
Utilities. This bug had previously been fixed in the integrated kernel.
In this code this fix has been applied to the PERC 2 firmware as well.
A problem that sometimes caused an "Unknown hard error" blue screen
if an attempt was made to boot from a RAID-5 system container with a
missing drive on a integrated controllers with more than 2 GB of
memory running W2K, has been fixed.
In previous versions, if a drive failure occurred on a redundant
container,and the failure was a specific type of hard failure in the bad
block replacement operation, and there were no other failover drives
assigned to the container, the controller would correctly take the drive
offline and then, seconds later, mistakenly bring it back online and
start a failover operation onto it. This has been corrected.

Installation instructions
Please follow the following steps to create two firmware diskettes.
1. Download the file to a directory on your hard drive. The file
downloaded is a self-extracting executable.
2. Run the executable file by double-clicking on the icon.
3. Follow the directions to create 2 Firmware diskettes.
To update the firmware using the AFU interactive mode,
follow these steps:
1. Shut down your system, then reboot from a firmware
diskette 1.
2. At the DOS prompt, enter the following command and
press ENTER.
afu
This starts the AFU in interactive mode. The AFU will
detect the installed PERC 2 and/or integrated controllers
and present them for selection in a list.
3. Using the cursor arrow keys, highlight one or more
PERC 2 and/or integrated controllers and select it for
update by pressing the space bar, then press ENTER.
4. A menu will be presented. Select the following
option:
Update flash image
5. The AFU will issue the following message:
Update from the flash image in directory:
A:
Change the directory if necessary, then use the TAB
key to select the OK box, and press ENTER.
6. AFU will issue this message:
Reading flash image file...
Please insert disk labeled "Dell PERC 2 or integrated
controller Firmware disk 2".
7. Insert the second diskette and press ENTER.
8. AFU will complete reading the flash image, then AFU
will issue this message:
AFU is about to update firmware on controller #0
Dell PERC 2 or integrated controller
9. Select the OK box, then press ENTER. AFU will proceed
to update the firmware. You will see the following
message:
Writing PERC 2 or integrated firmware to controller 0 ...
This message will be followed by additional progress
messages. When the flash update has completed, you
will see this message:
Flash image was updated and verified successfully.
NOTE: If you selected multiple controllers, AFU will prompt
you to insert the diskette after the successful update of
first controller. Please insert firmware diskette 1 for second
controller.
10. Press any key, then press the ESC key to exit AFU.
11. Remove any diskettes from the drive and reboot the
system.
