Western Digital XL1000C Series Hard Disk Drive Firmware Update

WARNING: As with all firmware updates, it is strongly recommended that you backup or make copies of all important files before performing this update. This firmware update process is done entirely at your own risk. If performed correctly, there will be no loss of system or user data on the drive. However, if the firmware process is interrupted for any reason, your hard disk drive may not function properly.

Download

1. Click Download File and follow the remaining prompts to download the file.
2. When the File Download window appears, click Run to unzip the download package into your hard drive.
3. The file explorer will open pointing to the directory containing the download package. Please take note of the path.

1. Select the correct folder base on operating system as below
- From the folder of win, if the operating system is Windows x32/x64 bit
- From the folder of dos, if the operating system is Dos

2. Base on operating system
- For Dos, type "wd7179.exe" then press ENTER
- For Windows x32/x64, right click "wd7179.exe" then select "Run as administrator" to execute the file

3. To check the drive FW, may use 3rd party software example like DiskCheckup. (http://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup.htm)
