Dell PERC 5/x, 6/x Adapter Driver

1. Driver package version 2.20.0.64 (A01) had to be rebuild to better accommodate all Microsoft requirement, there is no functionality changes from A00 to A01.
2. There is no need to update systems running A00 (2.20.0.64) drivers.
3. Changes from native driver to A00: 1. Bustype entry added to registry to meet new WHQLscsi compliance test requirements.
4. Changes on how driver update data structures to better handle operations with several controllers on the system.
5. Driver hotplug setting/management changes to avoid problems resuming from S3 on Vista.
6. Improve synchronization with storport to avoid problems using driver for OS installation (Windows 2008).
7. In Windows, deletion of a virtual disk, followed by creation of a virtual disk without initialization may result in a blue screen when attempting to format.
8. Workaround - Initialization (fast init) of the drives before formatting will prevent this issue.

Install Instructions
==============
Copy the files form the package to a media device supported by the system.Windows 2008 supports floppies, USB keys, CD & DVD drives.

Installing the Driver during Operating System Installation
-------------------
1. Power up the system and boot to the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 DVD.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions until you reach the
"Where do you want to install Windows?" section.
3. Select "Drive options (advance)"
4. Press on "New" to create a partition to install Windows 2008, select
the size in MB and click "Apply" (consult Windows 2008 user manual
to select a drive size that meets the OS demands).
5. Select "Load Driver" and browse to the location where you have copied
the Windows 2008 driver.
6. Select the RAID controller used for this installation. The system will
automatically select one controller. Press "Next".
7. After the driver loads you will return to the "Where do you want to
install Windows?" screen (partitions can be configured on this screen).
Click "Next" again to continue with the installation process.

NOTE: Dell PERC 5 and PERC 6 RAID controllers have Windows 2008 native support. The OS installation can be executed using the native driver. In such case, when the installation completes the PERC driver should be updated, see section "3.3 Updating an Existing Windows Driver", for details.

Installing a Windows Driver for a New RAID Controller
----------------
Perform the following steps to configure the driver when you add the RAID controller to a system that already has Windows installed.

1. Power down the system.
2. Install the new RAID controller in the system.
Refer to Hardware Installation for detailed instructions on installing and cabling the controller in the system.
3. Power on the system.
4. Windows 2008 has native support for PERC 5 and PERC 6 controllers, the
system will identify the new controller and use the native driver.
5. Update with the newer driver following the steps on the next section:

Updating an Existing Windows Driver
-------------
Perform the following steps to update the Windows driver for a RAID controller already installed on your system.
NOTE: It is important that you idle your system before you update the driver.

1. Press "Start" > "Control Panel" > "System and Maintenance" > "System".
The "View basic information about your computer" screen displays.
2. Click on the "Device Manger" link on the left.
The "Device Manger" window opens up.
4. Click on "Storage controller"
5. Double-click the RAID controller for which the driver has to be updated.
6. Click on the "Driver" tab and click on "Update Driver" button.
The screen for the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard displays.
7. Insert the appropriate media (driver diskette/USB key/CD/DVD).
8. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software"
9. Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
10.Click on the "Have Disk" button and browse to the appropriate location.
11.Select the RAID controller and click "Next"
12.The new driver will be uploaded, close all windows and reboot the system
computer for the changes to take effect.

Driver Update using Dell Update Package (DUP)
--------------
A Dell Update Package (DUP) is a self-contained executable in a standard Dell package format and each Update Package is designed to update a single component on your system.

DUP Download
------------
1. Click the Download Now link to download the file.
2. When the File Download window appears, click Save to save the file to
your hard drive.

Driver Update
-------------
1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file.
2. Read over the release information presented in the dialog window.
3. Download and install any prerequisites identified in the dialog window before proceeding.
4. Click the Install button.
5. Follow the remaining prompts to perform the update.
