Dell OpenManage Client Instrumentation (OMCI) is a Dell developed software application that enables relationship desktops, workstations, and mobile clients to be remotely managed. The OMCI package ships by default on OptiPlex and is optionally available for the Precision and Latitude product lines. OMCI collects system information from a number of different sources including BIOS, CMOS, SMBIOS, SMI, OS APIs, DLLs and registry settings on the system that it is installed on. It then exposes that information through the Microsoft CIMOM interface. This allows any standards based management console that supports WMI, to collect system information from Dell clients. When used in conjunction with Dell’s IT Assistant, configurable settings can be modified remotely without visiting the client machine. OMCI allows IT Administrators to remotely collect asset information, modify CMOS settings, proactively receive notification of potential fault conditions, and be advised of potential security breaches. OMCI is uniquely different from previous OMCI releases with the reduced support for legacy Operating Systems and platforms.

Fixes & Enhancements
Changes from 7.0.1 to 7.1:
Additional Features - Inserted support for the monitor serial number. - Separate alerts are now given for memory increased and memory decreased. - The polling frequency for hard drive alerts (SMART errors and low freespace) have been increased from once per 1 minute to once per 4 hours. The former rate did not permit the hard drive to spin down. - The hard drive freespace threshold has been upgraded so that it is now a percentage of the hard drive size and is not applied to drives below a certain size. The percentage upper limit enables applications to drives of widely varying size. The lower threshold enables small devices, such as USB flash drives, to be excluded from the alert. Consult the OMCI User’s Guide for more information. - Support for enabling/disabling Hyperthreading has been added. - Support for enabling/disabling wireless control has been added. - Support for setting Enable Keypad to various values has been added. - The MOF files are now certifiable against CIM schema ver 2.6.
Bug Fixes - An OMCI alert is no longer given when a system resumes from S4 (sleep 4 state). - OMCI can now reboot or shutdown a system running a password protected screen-saver. - Memory and hard drive size are now shown correctly by OpenManage Client Connector. - A reporting error with the SCSI SMART drive alerting has been fixed.
