I. OVERVIEW
This ISO image is to assist you in installing Red Hat Linux 9 (RHL 9) on
PowerEdge Servers, specifically for the PowerEdge 650, 1650, 1655,
and 4600. This disk is required for performing a CD installation on the
PowerEdge 650, 1650, and 1655, while it is optional but recommended
for the 4600.

Also included on this image are kernel RPMs for the 2.4.20-9 and
2.4.20-16.9 kernels, kernel source for the 2.4.20-6, -8, -9, and -16
kernels, and an aic7xxx RPM and source code for the PowerEdge 4600.

II. USING THIS BOOT DISK FOR CD-ROM INSTALLATIONS

Why This Boot Disk is Needed
a. PowerEdge 1650
A bug was found in a kernel driver that causes the BOOT kernel, which is
used by the Red Hat Linux installer, to not be able to mount a CD-ROM on
the 1650. This boot disk has a BOOT kernel with a patched driver that
will resolve this issue
b. PowerEdge 4600
A bug was found in the aic7xxx SCSI driver that will cause PCI parity
errors when the secondary Adaptec 7890 SCSI controller is enabled on
the PowerEdge 4600. This boot disk has a BOOT kernel with a patch driver
that will resolve this issue as well.
c. PowerEdge 650
A bug was found in the CMD680 IDE controller driver in kernels lower
than 2.4.20-16 that can possible prevent RHL9 from installing or cause
data corruption on PowerEdge 650. This boot disk has BOOT kernel with
patched driver that allows you to install and kernel RPMs 2.4.20-16.9
with patched driver.
NOTE: Please, follow the steps in Installing Your System section to
install 2.4.20-16.9 kernel RPMs before exiting Red Hat installer.
You must install this kernel before exiting the installer and
rebooting your system.
d. PowerEdge 1655
An intermittent hang was seen during installation of Red Hat Linux 9 on
PowerEdge 1655 using a USB CD-ROM. The kernels in this BOOT CD have an
updated USB layer which fixes this issue.

Using This BOOT Disk TO Perform A CD-ROM Installation

NOTE: You need to burn this ISO to a CD and boot your system with it to install Red Hat Linux 9

A. Identifying Your CD Version:
Red Hat Linux distributed two CD sets for RHL 9 release. The first set
was distributed in the US and has kernel 2.4.20-6 while the second set
was distributed outside of USA and made available on the web, and has
kernel 2.4.20-8.

The installation options vary based on the CD sets you have. To identify
which options to use, you need to know the kernel version on your CD,
which can be found using a Linux or Windows system by following the steps
below:

With a Linux system:
1. Insert Red Hat Linux 9 CD 1 into your CD-ROM and mount it by
typing "mount /mnt/cdrom" at a command prompt
2. List the boot kernel RPM in the CD by typing
"ls /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS/kernel-BOOT*" at a prompt

Or, with a Windows system:
1. Insert Red Hat Linux 9 CD 1 into your CD-ROM.
2. In the Windows Explorer, click on the CD Drive, then browse the
RedHat directory, followed the RPMS directory.
3. Look for kernel-BOOT RPM file.

If your kernel-BOOT in the CD is kernel-BOOT-2.4.20-8.i386.rpm, use the
2.4.20-8 section of installation options below.

If your kerne
