Installing the Adaptec Driver during a fresh Windows XP/W2K Installation
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Ensure your Windows XP CD is inserted into the CD-ROM drive.

2. Start your system. Immediately press and release the F6 key when you see the following message:

"Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration..."
If you do not see this message, your system may not be setup to boot from CD-ROM. This change can be made within System Setup by rebooting and pressing F2.

3. When prompted, press S to specify an additional device.

4. Press Enter to select Others; insert the Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI Driver for Windows XP/W2k diskette in your floppy drive.

5. Use the arrow keys to highlight "Adaptec U320 SCSI HostRAID Controller", then press Enter.

6. To add other host adapters that are not part of the Ultra320 Family, press S and repeat from Step 4 for each additional adapter and insert the appropriate driver disk.

7. Press Enter to continue with the Windows XP/W2k operating system setup. Follow the instructions onscreen and in the Windows XP documentation to complete the installation.

Updating the Adaptec Driver from within Windows XP/W2k
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. From Device Manager right click on the "Adaptec Embedded SCSI HostRAID Controller" and then choose 'Properties'.

2. Click on the 'Driver' tab, click 'Update Driver' and then click on the 'Next' button.

3. From the next screen click on 'Display a list of the known drivers for this device...' and then the 'Next' button.

4. Click the 'Have Disk' button and type "a:\" in the 'Copy Manufacturer's files from:' drop down menu and choose 'OK'.

5. Choose the "Adaptec Embedded SCSI HostRAID Controller" from the list and choose 'Next'. From the next screen choose 'Next' again.

6. Choose 'Finish' to complete the installation and restart system.
