This package contains the firmware for the Seagate ST500DM002 500 GB and ST1000DM003 1 TB hard drive, Revision 1001. Storage firmware is a microcode that is embedded on storage devices such as hard drives or solid-state drives. The firmware manages the functionality of the devices.

Before updating this firmware, ensure that you back up the data in the system and close all open applications. It is also recommended to connect the power cable when it is not a desktop and disconnect all external storage devices.
Firmware upgrade through the Windows utility
Download
1. Click Download File to download the file.
2. When download is complete, run the downloaded file to extract to your drive.
3. The file explorer opens pointing to the directory containing the download package. Take note of the path.
Upgrade Procedure
1. Close all open applications, and save your work before the firmware update process.
2. Go to the location where you have downloaded the package.
3. Right-click the file that is named setup and select Run as administrator to run the file with administrator privilege.
4. Firmware update operation is initiated automatically. Once the update completion message is displayed, close the window.
