This package contains the BIOS update for Dell OptiPlex 790 that runs Windows and DOS operating systems. BIOS is a firmware that is embedded on a small memory chip on the computer's system board. It controls the keyboard, monitor, disk drives and other devices. This package contains the update for CPU microcode to address Intel Security Advisory INTEL-SA-00115 (CVE-2018-3639 and CVE-2018-3640).

If BIOS version A05 or later and BIOS versions before A10 is currently installed on your system, you must first update to BIOS version A10 and then update to the latest BIOS.

Updating the BIOS through Windows
1. Click Download File, to download the file.
2. When the File Download window appears, click Save to save the file to your hard drive.
3. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file.
Windows System will restart automatically and update BIOS at the system startup screen.
After BIOS update is completed, system will reboot automatically to take effect.
Updating the BIOS from a DOS environment with Legacy boot mode (Non-Windows users)
1. Copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB key.
2. Power on the system, then Press F12 key and Select USB Storage Device and Boot to DOS prompt.
3. Run the file by typing copied file name where the executable is located.
DOS System will restart automatically and update BIOS at system startup screen.
After BIOS update is completed, system will reboot automatically to take effect.
Updating the BIOS from a DOS environment with UEFI boot mode (Non-Windows users, Load Legacy Option Disabled)
1. Copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB key.
2. Power on the system, then go to BIOS Setup by pressing F2 key and go to General > Boot Sequence > Boot > Boot List Option.
3. Change UEFI to Legacy of Boot List Option.
4. Go to Exit > Save Changes and reboot system.
5. Press F12, then Select USB Storage Device and Boot to DOS prompt.
6. Run the file by typing copied file name where the executable is located.
DOS System will restart automatically and update BIOS at system startup screen.
After the BIOS update is finished, system will reboot automatically.
7. Go to BIOS Setup by pressing F2 key and go to General > Boot Sequence > Boot > Boot List Option.
8. Change Legacy to UEFI Boot Option.
9. Go to Exit > Save Changes and reboot system.
Note 1: You must provide a bootable DOS USB drive. This executable file does not create the DOS system files.
Note 2: Ensure that you suspend BitLocker encryption before updating BIOS on a BitLocker-enabled system. If you do not enable BitLocker on your system, you can ignore this step.
