Symptoms

Description

FluidFS firmware versions 5 and lower have a feature called "Import to lowest tier".
This allows data to be written to the lowest storage tier instead of Tier 1 as normal .

 

"Import to lowest tier" feature was removed in v6 firmware.
If the feature was enabled prior to updating to v6, it can cause issues.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include Nas pool expansion failures.
SC snapshots not working correctly on the Nas volumes.
Data progression not working correctly due to Nas data tied to tier 3.

Solution

Changes can be made by support on the backend FluidFS volumes to correct this.

Steps to disable Import to lowest Tier (DSM 2016)

  1. Disable Import to lowest Tier on the Nas volumes.
    1. Click the Storage view and select a FluidFS cluster.
    2. Click the Summary tab.
    3. In the right pane, click Edit FluidFS Cluster Settings. The Edit FluidFS Cluster Settings dialog box appears.
    4. Click the SC Storage Profile tab.
    5. Uncheck the Import to Lowest Tier check box.
    6. Click OK.
