Dell Networking N Series: How to set the enable password for OS6

Symptoms

To configure the enable password, use the following commands.

console# configure

Enter configuration mode.

console(config) enable password <password>

This sets a local password to control access to the privileged Exec mode.

 

Example

 Assume that we want to configure the enable password as "password123".

 Note:  Use more complicated, hard to guess credentials to secure the switch.

console#configure
console(config)#enable password password123


You can verify this by looking at the current running configuration:

console# show running-config | include enable

enable password a3945504d807c21094969da1a54ee6e2 encrypted

 

Result

Now you are required to provide a password to enter privilege mode.

console>enable
