DLm8500: Supported IP ports over DLm NAT network

Summary: Only certain ports are supported over NAT interface for interfaces to backend storage

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

Upgrade to DLm 5.5.x or above - certain ports supporting NFS or other protocols not working over NAT IP Address.

Cause

This was by design.  The passthru address to the back end storage was only intended for ssh (e.g. putty) or browser access.  There was no filtering, though, and some customers were using other services.

Effective in release 5.5, the internal firewall was adjusted to block connections to unallowed ports.

Resolution

The following ports are allowed through the NAT firewall.
  • SSH  -  port 22
  • HTTP -  port 80
  • HTTPS -  port 443
This will enable one to manage backend storage to the DLm8500.

Additional Information

The 1 GB management network on DLm8500 is not meant to support other protocols for transfer such as NFS, CIFS, or FTP.

Note that the following covers this in the 5.5 Release Notes, under "Utilities for Virtuent Systems" as "Fixed issues":

  • Adjusted firewall to reject connections to unallowed ports which are forwarded to storage.
