Cause
The reason that we are seeing Invalid length RTPG descriptor messages in the logs is because of a problem in the scsi translation layer. Wherein length does not account for extended header size of 4 bytes in the extended header format. So the overall length is less by 4 bytes. RTPG payload size is 24 bytes, but VMware is sending 28 bytes because of the extended header format.
Resolution
First set of errors are benign and can be ignored. second error has been addressed by VMware engineering. (DCPN 109006) and also powerpath EE (PPVM-2104) is aware of this.
Fix was firstly to be incoporated into esxi 8.x series but this customer has an issue with their esxi 7.*. VMware engineering team has confirmed that the fix for this issue will be available in 7.0 u3L release (7.0p07) which is expected to release in march end (tentative) and in 8.0 u1 release.
