PowerStore: Volume is in a state where the only valid operation is delete.
Summary: Starting with PowerStoreOS 3.5.x, there is a new recycle-bin feature. This feature stores a deleted volume to allow recovery if the volume was accidentally deleted. This can become an issue when the replication feature is in use. The SRC system in the replicated environment still sees a volume with the same name on the disaster recovery (DR) system. This prevents new replication sessions from starting for that volume. ...

Symptoms
The error "Volume is in a state where the only valid operation is delete." is reported when trying to start a new replication session for a volume.
Cause
A volume may have been previously replicated to the DR system, and the replication was then broken or canceled. The volume on the DR system was deleted but now resides in the recycle-bin. When a new replication session starts from the SRC system, it fails due to an existing volume (resource) with the same name on the DR system.
Resolution
There are two options to correct this issue:
- Delete the volume from the recycle bin on the DR system side. Once the volume has been deleted from the recycle bin, the replication session starts after the next Recovery Point Objective (RPO) cycle
- Rename the SRC volume and the replication session will start after the next RPO cycle.
