Symptoms

The NetWorker server's daemon.raw reports that the nsrvim process fails with "End of file or no input: max message length exceeded":

MM/DD/YYYY HH:mm:SS  1 3 0 536868608 40998 0 NETWORKER_SERVER_NAME nsrdisp_nwbg RAP notice job 'nsrvim' progress message: Querying for inventory at https://VCENTER_NAME/sdk

NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) Virtual Machine (VM) backup workflows fail.

Cause

This issue is raised to NetWorker engineering. This issue occurs in large vCenters with 2000+ VMs, though no fixed limit exists, as it depends on multiple VMware resources beyond the VM count. Inventory may succeed with over 2000 VMs, but issues can occur if more VMware resources are added or migrated into the vCenter.

Impacted NetWorker versions:

19.9.0.x -> 19.12.0.x

Resolution

Code optimizations went into the nsrvim and nsrdisp_vcentertaskmngr functions in NetWorker 19.13.0.0.

Upgrade the NetWorker server to 19.13.0.0 (or later).
