NetWorker: nsraddadmin returns "Bad resource file." error

Symptoms

  • The following error appears when trying to browse save set
user root does not have the privileges required to start the requested job. The required privilege is Operator NetWorker
  • nsraddadmin returns a "Bad resource file" when adding an entry to the external roles field.

Cause

The local user's Distinguished Name (DN) is missing from the Application Administrator Usergroup's external roles field.

Resolution

  1. Open an elevated prompt on the NetWorker server.
  2. Add the NetWorker server's local authentication service to the Administrators list: nsraddadmin -H NETWORKER_SERVER_NAME -P 9090
  3. If the NMC uses a separate authentication host from the NetWorker server, run: nsraddadmin -H REMOTE_AUTHC_SERVER_NAME -P 9090
