Symptoms

When running a replication resync command, the following error appears:

  • ERROR: repl ctx <ID>: this context is disabled due to potential nvram loss.
Please break replication on both source and destination, then reconfigure them and run replication resync.

The resync does not proceed.

Example:

# replication resync dir://hostname.FQDN/backup/dir4
The 'replication resync' command irrevocably removes the destination data that are different from the source. It will not be possible to recover the lost data.

Are you sure? (yes|no|?) [no]: yes
ok, proceeding.
(00:00) Waiting for resync to start...
(00:02) ERROR: repl ctx 1: this context is disabled due to potential nvram loss. Please break replication on both source and destination, then reconfigure them and run replication resync.
Resync will proceed when error is fixed.

Cause

The replication context is marked as disabled because the system detected a potential NVRAM loss condition.
When this state is detected, the system prevents resync operations to avoid propagating data inconsistencies.
