Connectrix B-Series: MAPS Email Alerts Not Working After Upgrade to v8.2.1a.

Summary: MAPS email alerts are not working after upgrade to v8.2.1a.

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

  • MAPS email alerts are not working after upgrade to v8.2.1a.
  • Running a MAPS test email from the switch (mapsconfig -testmail) shows that the email has been sent successfully but there is no email received in the SMTP server from the switch.
  • IP Network ping from the switch to the SMTP relay server shows that there are ICMP pings exchanged between devices which means that there is a reliable connection between the switch and the SMTP server.
  • Network packet trace (tcpdump) installed on the switch shows that there is no traffic generated from the switch end when there is a test email sent from the switch.
  • Crontab command output (Linux command) on the switch (# crontab -l) is empty.

Example:

Bad Switch:

 CID-TAC-6520-AA:root> crontab -l

          # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - edit the master and reinstall.

          # (/fabos/sbin/mail_handler installed on Fri May 10 15:49:50 2019)

          # (Cron version -- $Id: crontab.c,v 2.13 1994/01/17 03:20:37 vixie Exp $)

          # Dummy script to avoid firmwaredownload failure

          CID-TAC-6520-AA:root>
  • Crontab output shows the crontab list of cronjobs, displays crontab file contents.
  • Crontab is a file which contains the schedule of cron entries to be run and at specified times.

Cause

In this case, there should be a crontab /fabos/sbin/mail_handler.sh file running on the switch to initiate the mails to be routed to the relay domain when there is a MAPS email generated from the switch.

Resolution

Workaround:

  1. Log in to the switch as root
  2. Run /usr/bin/crontab /fabos/rbin/mail_handler
  3. This re-creates the crontab file correctly.

Note: The above command must be run after every reboot or hafailover of the switch until an upgrade can be done.

Fix:
This issue addressed in FOS-803652 and fixed in FOS v8.2.1b
