Connectrix Brocade B-Series: FOS parameters used for email transfer in SMTP protocol EHCO, MAIL, and RCPT commands
Summary: Brocade Fabric OS (FOS) parameters used for email transfer in Simple Network Management Protocol (SMTP) commands.
Instructions
Brocade FOS uses Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to transfer emails queued on the switch to the configured mail relay.
Different mail relays have different policies on accepting email. Knowing what FOS is sending can be helpful to understand why the mail relay might reject some messages.
1. The SMTP EHCO command is used to identify the host (switch) sending the email, FOS populates this as:
<switchname>.<domain name>
Where <switchname> is the configured switch name, and <domain name> is the domain name set by dnsconfig on the switch.
2. The SMTP MAIL command identifies who the message is from. FOS versions prior to v8.2.x populate this as:
. root@<switchname>.<domain name>
3. In FOS v8.2x, the SMTP MAIL command identifies the message as being from as:
postmaster@<switchname>.<domain name>
4. The SMTP RCPT command identifies the recipient. FOS populates this with the email recipient configured in MAPS, which has the form:
user@fully_qualified_domain_name
