Dell Update (for consumer and client computers only) and Alienware Update (for Alienware computers only) is a stand-alone application that provides updates for Dell system software. This application simplifies the BIOS, firmware, driver, and application update experience for Dell consumer client hardware. This application can also be used to install drivers after the operating system and network drivers are installed based on the computer's identity.

Note: Dell highly recommends downloading and installing the latest Dell Update or Alienware Update during your next scheduled update cycle. The updates contain feature enhancements or changes that improve the reliability and availability of your computer.
Note: Dell Update and Alienware Update Classic interface is not supported from version 4.7 onwards and the older Dell Update and Alienware Update Classic clients are upgraded to Dell Update and Alienware Update 4.7 UWP.
Note: The installation of Dell Update and Alienware Update version 5.5 necessitates the prior installation of a .NET Desktop Runtime version ranging from 8.0.8 to 8.0.17.

Known issues

  1. If Dell Client Device Manager (DCDM) 1.0 is present on the system and Dell/Alienware Update (AU) 5.5 is manually installed, the DellClientManagement Service may become corrupted, causing it to stop and be disabled.
  2. Application notifications may fail to function properly. It is recommended to uninstall both DCDM 1.0 and AU 5.5, then reinstall AU 5.5 to restore full functionality.
  3. On a fresh installation, the ConsentOverride registry key is not created by default, which may prevent telemetry events from being triggered.
  4. If any product coexists with Dell Core Services (DCS) and DCS is uninstalled, all associated agents may transition to an Unknown State. DCS is a critical component, and its removal disrupts agent status.
  5. If .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher is not installed, users will receive an error popup indicating the missing runtime, and the installation will be aborted.
  6. During silent installation, the absence of the required .NET runtime will be logged in the installation log, and the installation will be terminated.
  7. For Dell TechHub (DTH) v1.5.26.6, the following requirements apply:
    • Intel systems: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher (x64)
    • ARM systems: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher (both arm64 and x64)
  8. For Dell Tech Management (DTM) functionality:
    • Intel systems: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher (x64)
    • ARM systems: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher (both arm64 and x64)
  9. Installation should proceed only if these conditions are met. Otherwise, a popup should notify the user, and the installation should be halted.
