Data Protection Advisor: Security scan has detected World writeable permissions on ".com.zerog.registry.xml" file in DPA Environment.

Symptoms

 This file ".com.zerog.registry.xml" is created during the installation of DPA under path "./var/.com.zerog.registry.xml" and Install_directory/emc/dpa/_uninstall/.com.zerog.registry.xml on Linux based systems. It is used by the installer in the course of its execution.

The current permission for the file ".com.zerog.registry.xml" is World writable on the DPA servers and on standalone DPA Agent servers. However, having this file as World writable can pose a security concern for some organizations. Security scanners may also identify this file as a security issue for having World writable permissions.

Cause

This is a known issue in Data Protection Advisor.

Resolution

Resolved in Data Protection Advisor 19.5.
Resolved in Data Protection Advisor 19.4 with the upcoming release of patch build.

As a workaround, the permission can be manually modified to 764 for the file ".com.zerog.registry.xml" file in both locations without having any impact on normal DPA functionality. This modification does not affect future DPA upgrades as well.
