Symptoms

PowerPath for Windows

PowerPath is reporting Event 4 - Source: Powerpath - EMC PowerPath Error: MPAPI : Error : Internal error occured .

This event is reported every hour in windows event viewer.
Even though the event is reported every hour there is no issue seen with PowerPath and Cluster functionality.
The event started occurring after upgrading PowerPath from 5.5 to 5.7 SP2.

Cause

Clients for MPAPI are Powermt, Host agent service and Powermig service causes the event to occur in event viewer.

Resolution

Disable auto host registration feature and see if issue is fixed.
To disable auto-host registration, repair install PowerPath using CLI if PowerPath version is 5.7 SP4 or earlier:
C:\EMCPower.X64.signed.5.7.SP2.bxxx.exe /s /v"/L*v C:\logs\PPrepair.log REINSTALL=ALL AUTO_HOST_REGISTRATION=0 NO_REBOOT=1"

In PowerPath 6.0, auto host registration can be disabled by the powermt command:
powermt set auto_host_registration={on|off}

If issue still persists, upgrade PowerPath to 6.0 or later, as there are possibilities the dll's become inconsistent during upgrade and PowerPath 6.0 should not have this issue.
