How to recover files from an Instant Access restore job.

 

  1. Perform IA restore
    1. Perform an Instant access restore job.
    2. This will create a new VM in vCenter and create an NFS datastore on the DD.
NOTE: Choose the same host that the recovery VM is running on. This avoids any permission issues with the NFS datastore.

 

  1. Mount
    1. Mount the disk that is on the NFS datastore to the VM you want to recover the files to.
    2. In vCenter, Click "ADD NEW DEVICE" and choose "Existing Hard Disk".

    1. Select the disk from the Datastore that was created by the Instant Access job. It is labeled "Avamar-MOD-xxxxxxxxxxxxx"

  1. Copy files
    1. You can now log into the VM, and you will see the new mounted disk.Browse to the files that you want to recover and copy them out.

  1. Cleanup
    1. Unmount the disk from the VM by right clicking it and selecting "Edit Settings" then Select the "x" next to the disk and Click "OK"

    2. Remove the VM created for the Instant Access restore job by right clicking and selecting "delete from disk."
       
    3. Remove NFS datastore from the DD:
      In the Avamar admin console, select Server and Data Domain NFS Datastores and Select the job and click "Unmount/Remove."
