Symptoms

A Windows 2019 virtual machine (VM) that is not in a cluster, logged the following event in System event log:

Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering-Client Date: <date> <time> Event ID: 81

This event does not impact Avamar functionality in any way.

Cause

Event ID 81 is generated when cluster-aware applications invoke Windows Cluster APIs to determine whether the server is part of a failover cluster. If the server is not configured as a cluster node, the API call fails, resulting in the logging of this event.

This behavior is expected and does not indicate a critical issue. The event is informational in nature and typically occurs due to the way certain applications interact with the system to assess cluster membership. It can be safely disregarded unless there are specific concerns related to clustering functionality.
