Data Domain: Unsupported Disk Drives | Alert STORAGE-00018 or STORAGE-00019

Summary: Data Domain (DD) systems generate an Alert if an unsupported disk drive (HDD or SDD) is inserted.

Symptoms

The Data Domain system generates an alert notification when it detects unsupported disk drives.

Alert Codes:

  • STORAGE-00018: One or more unsupported drives have been detected.
  • STORAGE-00019: Unsupported mix of drive types in an enclosure has been detected.

Affected Systems:

  • All Data Domain systems
  • All DDOS software versions

Cause

The Data Domain Operating System (DDOS) supports only specific disk drives based on make, model, firmware version, and sector size.
These alerts occur when someone inserts a disk that does not meet the supported criteria.

Resolution

Remove any unsupported disk drives from the system and replace them with supported drives.

⚠️  WARNING: Do not attempt to add unsupported disks to a filesystem. Doing so may compromise data integrity and system stability.
