Symptoms

Unable to upgrade or deploy new proxies from the Avamar User Interface (AUI) after installing HF338823 for Avamar 19.10.0-135.

  • After running the PDM recommendation, the AUI interface shows one or both of these symptoms:
    • Exclamation point icons on some of the ESXi server objects instead of the expected server icons.
    • An 'Undefined' object instead of the expected 'New Proxy'

Cause

The issue occurs due to a defect introduced in HF338823, which causes the Proxy Deployment Manager to create an undefined object. This object cannot be edited or managed through the Avamar User Interface (AUI).

Resolution

Solution:

This issue is resolved in Avamar 19.10 SP1 (19.10.0-166), released in June 2024.



Workaround:

Start a new PDM recommendation with the "Data Change Rate" set to 0. This prevents the creation of the undefined object and allows for the proper deployment or upgrade of proxies.

With the change rate set to 0%, no new proxies are recommended. If new proxies are needed, select the specific ESXi server to deploy a new proxy and then click "+" to create a new proxy on this host.
