Symptoms
A Microsoft Active Directory host is configured as two separate NetWorker clients:
- One is configured using standard NetWorker client software and contains DISASTER_RECOVER:\ save set (or save set ALL).
- One is configured as a NetWorker Module for Microsoft client and performs
nsradsavebackups of Active Directory.
Both clients set to run in the protection group and are scheduled to backup in the same policy.
The backup of the traditional client reports as successful but the following error is observed in the workflow log:
An invalid dn syntax has been specified. A valid object must be specified. The specified object does not exist: WINDOWS ROLES AND FEATURES:\
No error is observed when the traditional client resource is backed up separately from the NMM AD client,
Cause
This is expected behavior. The NMM AD client backup and the file system backup (includes DISASTER_RECOVERY:\ save set) should not be backed up simultaneously.
Resolution
Configure the client protection (file system backup) and NMM (AD backup) to perform in separate groups, scheduled to run separately from each other.
