PowerProtect Data Manager: Kubernetes backups fail with "Unable to POST session, connection refused"

Symptoms

This applies only to Kubernetes for VMware Tanzu guest cluster protection. This protection requires an external Virtual Machine (VM) Direct engine dedicated to Kubernetes workloads. 

Below error can be seen in the logs.

Cause

Connection issue from PowerProtect controller pod to proxy (the VM Direct engine dedicated to Kubernetes workloads) on port 9090.

Resolution

Address the firewall issue so that the PowerProtect controller pod can connect to the proxy on port 9090.
