Symptoms
The following errors may be seen in the SharePoint logs (only visible when using --debug and --debugvss flags):
DefaultDomain: GetProxyName - 'System.InvalidOperationException' occured in GetProxyName: 'The load balancer is not provisioned. Verify the load balancer was provisioned successfully before retrieving endpoint addresses.' DefaultDomain: 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred while exporting the topology of Search Service Application 'KCBSearchService': 'The load balancer is not provisioned. Verify the load balancer was provisioned successfully before retrieving endpoint addresses.' DefaultDomain: System.InvalidOperationException in SharePoint API library: The load balancer is not provisioned. Verify the load balancer was provisioned successfully before retrieving endpoint addresses. at spapi.cmdlet.ExportTopologies() at spapi.sp.ParseargsAndStart(String args) at spapi.sp.EntryPoint(String args)
Cause
Multiple Search Service application proxies have been defined for the SharePoint 2013 farm.
This can be verified by running the following command from the SharePoint Management Shell:
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplicationProxy
SharePoint 2010 supports multiple search service proxies but this is not supported for SharePoint 2013
This can be verified by running the following command from the SharePoint Management Shell:
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplicationProxy
SharePoint 2010 supports multiple search service proxies but this is not supported for SharePoint 2013
Resolution
Remove one of the existing Search Service Application proxies in the farm.
The following PowerShell command can be used to accomplish this task:
Remove-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplicationProxy
Otherwise, engage Microsoft support to safely remove the extra proxy so that it does not negatively affect farm functionality.
