Avamar: How to Safely Shut Down and Restart an NDMP Accelerator Node for maintenance

How to shut down an Avamar NDMP accelerator node:

 

1. Verify that no NDMP backups are running on the node using the Avamar Administrator activity monitor.

2. Open a PuTTY session and log in to the accelerator node as admin.

3. Use the following command to become root:

su -
 

4. Perform the shutdown command:

shutdown -h now
 

5. To stop services, unmount the file system and then halt the system.

Caution: Shutting down the node while a backup is in progress can cause backup failures and data inconsistency.
 
 

How to restart an Avamar NDMP accelerator node:

 

1. Power on the accelerator node using the hardware power button or remote management interface.

2. Allow the node to boot; all required services start automatically.
